Violent Robbery Attempt in Ludhiana Leaves Two Men Hospitalized

A dramatic and violent attempted heist at a money exchange shop in Ludhiana's New Madhopuri area has resulted in two men being hospitalized and triggered a major police manhunt. The incident, which began as an armed robbery, quickly descended into a chaotic street brawl involving gunfire and knife attacks.

Brave Shopkeeper Resists Masked Assailants

The confrontation started when two masked individuals on a motorcycle targeted Sahil Telecom, a local establishment that specializes in mobile phones and currency transfer services. Shop owner Muhammad Anzar Alam was alone inside when the assailants entered and demanded cash at gunpoint.

When Alam resisted their demands and raised an alarm, one of the robbers fired a handgun, striking the shopkeeper in his right hand. Despite sustaining this injury, Alam courageously fought back against the attackers. As the thieves attempted to flee with an envelope containing cash, Alam grabbed a baseball bat and struck one of the robbers forcefully in the head.

The powerful blow caused the assailant to bleed heavily and drop the stolen money onto the road, preventing the robbers from escaping with their intended loot.

Helper Seriously Injured in Ensuing Struggle

The commotion attracted the attention of Rajesh Niku, who owns a nearby grocery store. Niku rushed to Alam's assistance, joining the struggle against the cornered robbers. In the ensuing confrontation, the desperate assailants allegedly attacked Niku with a knife, inflicting serious head injuries before managing to escape the scene.

Witnesses reported that the suspects fired three to four shots into the air as they fled on their motorcycle, apparently attempting to deter any potential pursuers from following them.

Police Investigation Underway

Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Sameer Verma confirmed that authorities are actively working to identify and apprehend the masked assailants. "Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the masked assailants," Verma stated. "The area has been cordoned off, and we are following several leads based on the footage and eyewitness accounts."

Key Details of the Investigation

  1. Casualties: Both Muhammad Anzar Alam and Rajesh Niku are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. ADCP Sameer Verma has confirmed that both men are currently in stable condition following the violent encounter.
  2. Police Action: Authorities have registered a formal case of attempted murder along with violations of the Arms Act against the unidentified suspects. The serious charges reflect the violent nature of the incident.
  3. Evidence Collection: Investigators are meticulously scanning CCTV footage from the New Madhopuri area. The footage captured the chaotic scene as residents fled for safety when gunshots rang out during the confrontation.
  4. Investigation Methodology: Police suspect that the assailants had conducted a reconnaissance mission, commonly referred to as a "recce," of the shop prior to launching their attack. This suggests the robbery was premeditated rather than spontaneous.

The violent incident has shaken the normally peaceful New Madhopuri neighborhood, with residents expressing concern about security in the area. Police have increased patrols while continuing their search for the two masked individuals responsible for the brazen daytime attack.
