Violent Clash Erupts in Ludhiana's Sanjay Gandhi Colony Over Longstanding Rivalry
Two groups of youngsters engaged in a violent and dangerous confrontation in Sanjay Gandhi Colony, located on Tajpur Road in Ludhiana, on Sunday night. The incident, stemming from an old rivalry, escalated rapidly, involving stone pelting, brick throwing, and even gunfire, causing widespread panic among local residents.
Sequence of Events and Public Panic
According to eyewitness accounts, the clash began when one group of youngsters gathered in the street and started pelting stones and bricks at another group. The targeted individuals quickly called their associates, leading to a reciprocal exchange of bricks and stones. Several residents, including children who were outside at the time, were forced to run for cover to avoid injury. The situation deteriorated further when some of the miscreants fired at least four to five gunshots into the air. Fortunately, no one sustained any bullet injuries, but the terrifying sounds of gunfire left the community shaken and fearful.
Police Investigation and FIR Details
Inspector Gagandeep Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) at Division Number 7 police station, provided crucial details about the investigation. Police have identified two main accused: Sunil Grewal and Ashish, both residents of Sanjay Gandhi Colony and known rivals. The root of their conflict traces back to a previous dispute over parking a garbage collection cart belonging to Ashish in the street. This earlier altercation had already resulted in vandalism of several vehicles, though no formal police complaint was filed at that time. However, authorities proactively registered a case against Sunil, Ashish, and their aides.
Regarding Sunday night's violent episode, police received information indicating that Ashish and Sunil had engaged in a fight earlier in the day. The confrontation later escalated into brick pelting and gunfire. Law enforcement officials have recovered two bullet shells from the scene as evidence. A formal First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against both accused and their associates under serious charges, including attempt to murder, creating a ruckus in the area, and violations of the Arms Act. Inspector Singh assured the public that police are actively pursuing the case and will apprehend the accused soon.
Community Impact and Safety Concerns
The violent clash has raised significant safety concerns among the residents of Sanjay Gandhi Colony. A woman resident, who witnessed the event, described the chaos: "The scuffle did not stop with just stone pelting. Some of the miscreants also fired at least four to five rounds. While no one was hurt, residents were terrified." This incident highlights ongoing tensions in the area and underscores the need for heightened police vigilance to prevent such dangerous outbreaks in the future. The local community remains on edge, hoping for swift justice and improved security measures to ensure their safety.
