Ludhiana Woman Allegedly Sets Residence Ablaze in Suspected Revenge Attack Over Financial Dispute

In a shocking and harrowing incident in Ludhiana, a 35-year-old woman allegedly set a house on fire in what appears to be a revenge-driven attack linked to a long-standing monetary dispute. The terrifying event unfolded in the Gurcharan Nagar area on Wednesday, forcing a family to flee for their lives as flames engulfed part of their home.

Family Escapes Unharmed as Fire Destroys Room

The homeowner, Sukhdeep Kaur, along with her two young sons aged eight and 11, managed to escape the blaze unharmed. According to reports, the accused, identified as Prabha Singh of JJ Enclave in Dugri, sprinkled petrol on the residence before igniting it. While the family and neighbours worked together to douse the flames, one room was completely gutted in the fire before Prabha fled the scene.

The Daba police swiftly responded to the incident, arresting Prabha Singh on Thursday. Investigations have revealed that this arson attack represents the latest escalation in a protracted financial conflict between Prabha and Sukhdeep's husband, Gian Singh.

Background of the Dispute and Previous Legal Actions

The situation is complicated by previous legal entanglements between the parties. Prabha had previously lodged an FIR against Gian Singh in 2025 for physical assault. In a twist of timing, Gian was actually arrested by the Daba police in that assault case on Wednesday—the very same day as the fire incident—and was subsequently sent to judicial custody on Thursday.

However, Prabha reportedly believed that the police had released Gian, and in a fit of rage, she targeted his home while his wife and children were inside. This misunderstanding appears to have triggered the violent retaliation.

Significant Property Damage and Police Response

According to Sukhdeep Kaur's statement to authorities, the sudden attack caused substantial destruction. The gutted room contained valuable items including furniture, an LED television, her children's school bags, and approximately Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. The financial and emotional toll on the family has been considerable.

ASI Gurcharanjit Singh confirmed that the accused was apprehended following the registration of an FIR. The police have booked Prabha Singh under Sections 326(7) and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to mischief by fire or explosive substance and mischief causing significant financial damage respectively.

The accused was produced before a local court, which has granted the police one-day remand for further investigation into this serious matter. The case continues to develop as authorities work to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this alarming incident of alleged arson and revenge.
