A distressing case of alleged domestic violence has emerged from Ludhiana, where a woman reportedly suffered a miscarriage after being brutally assaulted by her husband. The incident has prompted swift police action, highlighting the severe consequences of such abuse.
Police Register Case Following Complaint
Acting on a formal complaint from the victim, the Division No. 2 police in Ludhiana have registered a case against the husband. The authorities have invoked serious legal provisions to address the alleged crimes.
Details of the Alleged Assault
The complainant, identified as Preeti, a resident of New Kidwai Nagar, has accused her husband Manik, who lives in Janakpuri, of frequent physical abuse. According to her statement to the police, the couple married a few years ago, and the assaults have been a recurring issue in their relationship.
Preeti, who was pregnant at the time, had been experiencing health issues for some time. She alleged that her deteriorating condition made it difficult for her to perform household chores, which often led to disputes with her husband. During one such altercation, Manik is accused of severely beating her, resulting in a miscarriage.
Medical Emergency and Police Intervention
After the assault, Preeti was in severe pain at home. Her parents were informed about her condition and immediately took her to a hospital for urgent medical treatment. She is currently admitted and receiving care for her injuries and the aftermath of the miscarriage.
Meanwhile, a police complaint has been formally lodged. The Division No. 2 police have booked the accused under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 89: Causing miscarriage without a woman's consent
- Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt
Police officials have confirmed that the matter is under investigation, and further details are being probed to ensure justice is served. This case underscores the critical need for awareness and action against domestic violence, particularly in situations involving vulnerable individuals like pregnant women.
