Bengaluru: A family dispute escalated into a violent attack when a man allegedly used a machete to assault his in-laws in broad daylight on May 28. The incident occurred at a BDA apartment complex in Kumbalagodu, leaving two people injured.
Background of the Dispute
According to the complaint filed by Syed Ahmed, 54, an employee of the public works department, the attack stemmed from an ongoing legal battle involving his daughter, Syeda Neha, and her estranged husband, Farhan Mubarak, a resident of RT Nagar. Ahmed stated that Mubarak married Neha six years ago, and the couple has a son. However, marital differences arose, prompting Neha to leave with her child and move in with her parents. Neha, currently working in Mumbai, filed for divorce, and the case is pending before a court.
The Attack
On May 28 at around 6 PM, Ahmed was playing with his grandson in a nearby park when Mubarak arrived at the residence. He allegedly dragged Ahmed's wife, Nasreena Bhanu, 50, out of the house and assaulted her on the street with a machete. Hearing her screams, Ahmed rushed to intervene. Mubarak then allegedly struck Ahmed on the head and right hand with the machete. Both victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The attack highlights how domestic disputes can lead to extreme violence, even in public spaces. Authorities urge citizens to seek legal mediation for marital conflicts to prevent such tragedies.
