However, Alka's mother remained supportive and cared for her daughter throughout the pregnancy, preventing the crime from occurring inside their home.
"Due to his wife's opposition, Ambed could not carry out the crime inside the house," explained SDPO Avinash Kumar.
The Fateful Hospital Visit and Subsequent Crimes
On February 13, Alka gave birth to a baby girl at Udakishunganj hospital. Shortly after delivery, she experienced excessive bleeding. Her father and uncle allegedly took her from the hospital, claiming they were transferring her to another medical facility for better treatment.
Instead, they reportedly killed Alka and dumped her body in Naugachhiya area of Bhagalpur district. Meanwhile, Alka's mother remained at the hospital with the newborn baby.
Boyfriend's Alleged Role in Newborn's Death
Later that same day, Rishu Kumar took the baby girl from the hospital. Police allege he subsequently strangled the infant and threw the body from a bridge on National Highway 106.
The investigation breakthrough came on February 20 when Rishu was arrested. During interrogation, he reportedly revealed that Alka's family members had killed her. He also confessed to disposing of the baby's body under the bridge.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The case was officially registered after both bodies were recovered on February 14. However, the full scope of the crime only became clear through DNA testing that connected the woman, her baby, and family members.
"On interrogation, Ambed and Tapesh confessed to their crime," stated SDPO Avinash Kumar. "The four-wheeler vehicle and cellphone used in the crime were also seized as evidence."
All three accused - Ambed Bharti (father), Tapesh Bharti (uncle), and Rishu Kumar (boyfriend) - have been arrested and sent to jail. The police investigation continues as they examine all aspects of this complex and tragic case that has shocked the Madhepura community.
