Madhubani Police and SSB Detain Suspect in Cross-Border Fake Currency Network
In a significant joint operation, the Basopatti police station and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) detained Mohammad Abul Inam, also known as Laden, from Kotwali Chowk in Madhubani town on Tuesday. The arrest is linked to his alleged involvement with a Pakistan-based counterfeit Indian currency network that operates through smuggling routes along the Nepal border.
Details of the Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
DSP Raghav Dayal from Jaynagar confirmed that an FIR has been officially lodged at the Basopatti police station regarding this case. He emphasized that further investigations are actively underway to uncover the full extent of the network. According to police sources, Inam is suspected of having connections with individuals involved in distributing high-quality fake Indian currency notes, which are reportedly printed in Pakistan and smuggled into India approximately a year ago.
Security agencies believe this racket specifically targets areas along the India-Nepal border in Bihar's Madhubani district, exploiting the porous border for illicit activities. In addition to the currency smuggling, Inam is accused of assisting a Pakistani national, Mohammad Ansari, who is alleged to be a handler in the fake currency case, in escaping through the Nepal border route.
Broader Implications and Efforts to Apprehend Fugitives
The operation highlights ongoing concerns about cross-border crime and the smuggling of counterfeit currency, which can destabilize local economies. Officials have stated that efforts are intensifying to trace and apprehend the absconding Pakistani national, Mohammad Ansari, as part of a broader crackdown on such networks. This case underscores the collaborative efforts between local police and paramilitary forces like the SSB in combating transnational financial crimes.
As investigations proceed, authorities are focusing on dismantling the entire network to prevent further infiltration of fake currency into the region. The detention of Inam marks a critical step in addressing these security challenges along the border areas.
