In a significant enforcement operation, the Mahasamund police intercepted a truck at the Palsapali barrier and confiscated a massive quantity of ganja weighing 912.760 kilograms. The contraband, with an estimated street value of ₹4.56 crore, was cleverly concealed to avoid detection during transport.
Operation Based on Specific Intelligence
The successful raid was conducted by a joint team comprising the Anti-Narcotic Task Force and personnel from the Basna police station. Authorities acted on precise intelligence inputs, leading to the interception of the truck bearing registration number AP 39 TT 4556. The vehicle was en route from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh when it was stopped for inspection.
Elaborate Concealment and Evidence Found
Investigators discovered that the smugglers had hidden the ganja in 29 separate sacks, which were strategically placed beneath a legitimate consignment of bananas. This method was intended to deceive law enforcement officials during routine checks. Further scrutiny of the truck revealed additional incriminating evidence, including two fake number plates identified as OD 02 DJ 8517 and UP 93 CT 8365.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The driver of the truck, a resident of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, was immediately taken into custody following the discovery. He remains in police custody as the investigation continues. Authorities have registered a formal case under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which governs such offenses in India.
