Mahendergarh Police Dismantle Drug Syndicate in Major Crackdown
In a significant victory against narcotics trafficking, the Mahendergarh police have successfully busted a drug syndicate operating in the region. Over a rigorous 10-day anti-narcotics drive, authorities arrested 11 accused individuals, including a Nigerian national, marking a crucial step in curbing illegal drug activities.
Operation Details and Seizures
The extensive police operation resulted in the registration of four First Information Reports (FIRs) and led to substantial seizures. Law enforcement confiscated 33 grams of heroin, commonly known as 'chitta', along with 63 grams of ganja and 220 intoxicant capsules. Additionally, cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales was recovered, highlighting the financial dimensions of the syndicate.
The crackdown commenced on March 13 with the arrest of an alleged peddler identified as Dinesh from Takht Bawri. During his apprehension, police found him in possession of 19 grams of smack and Rs 13,900 in cash. This initial arrest served as a pivotal entry point for investigators to delve deeper into the supply chain.
Unraveling the Supply Chain
Following Dinesh's arrest, further investigative efforts enabled police to trace and intercept key intermediaries within the network. This led to the subsequent arrests of individuals named Himanshu, Vinod, and Rinku, who are believed to have played roles in facilitating the distribution of narcotics.
The operation reached a critical juncture on March 31 with the arrest of a Nigerian national, Ikechukwu, who hails from Anambra in southern Nigeria. From Ikechukwu, authorities seized Rs 18,500 in cash, a scooty, and counterfeit "toy notes" valued at Rs 32,300. Police are currently verifying his visa credentials and investigating his potential connections to a broader drug network in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Criminal Backgrounds and Ongoing Probe
Investigations reveal that most of the arrested accused have prior criminal records, including previous cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Some individuals also face charges related to assault, indicating a pattern of criminal behavior beyond drug offenses.
The Mahendergarh police continue to probe the syndicate's operations, focusing on dismantling any remaining links and preventing future drug trafficking activities in the area. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the scourge of narcotics and ensure public safety.
