In a disturbing incident in Chandigarh, the police have registered a case against a man for allegedly sexually molesting his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The victim's mother filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The accused has been absconding since the complaint was lodged.
Details of the Incident
The complainant stated that her first husband passed away about four years ago. She remarried a resident of Panchkula approximately one year ago. She alleged that her second husband began molesting her daughter shortly after the marriage. The girl disclosed the abuse to her mother a few months ago.
Apology and Repeat Offense
The mother confronted the accused, who apologized and promised not to repeat the act. However, a few days ago, she caught him red-handed while he was molesting the child again. Following this, she decided to approach the police.
The police have launched a search operation to nab the fugitive. Raids are being conducted at possible hideouts. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of child sexual abuse within families, often referred to as intra-familial abuse. The Pocso Act provides stringent punishment for such offenses, including life imprisonment. The police are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and bringing the accused to book.
