A man accused of repeatedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl and forcing her to take abortion pills was shot in the leg and arrested after an encounter with Karanda police in Ghazipur early Monday. The accused, identified as Mohd Tasleem (22), was taken into custody following a brief exchange of fire near Mainpur Taal.
Case Registered After Girl Becomes Pregnant
CO (Sadar) Shekhar Sengar stated that a case was registered on Sunday after the minor became pregnant and was allegedly given medication to induce an abortion. Police teams launched a search operation and, acting on a tip-off, cornered Tasleem near Mainpur Taal as he attempted to flee.
Encounter and Arrest
The CO said that when Tasleem saw the police cordon, he opened fire and tried to escape. In retaliatory firing, he was shot in the leg and apprehended. Police seized a country-made pistol, cartridges, and a motorcycle from the spot. The accused was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
Confession During Interrogation
During initial questioning, Tasleem allegedly confessed to raping the minor and forcing her to take abortion medication after learning she was pregnant. Further investigation is ongoing.
