Kendrapada: Police on Monday arrested a man on charges of abusing and assaulting lady sarpanch Chameli Ojha (33) of Tikhiri gram panchayat on Thursday. Acting on her complaint, police arrested Partha Sarathi Samantray (52) of Mahakalapada on Monday.
“Other accused fled from their villages. We are raiding their hideouts to nab them,” said Manas Kumar Mallick, IIC of Mahakalapada police station. Meanwhile, Congress MLA Sofia Firdous met Ojha in the district headquarters hospital on Monday.
Lady sarpanch Chameli Ojha is currently hospitalized. The incident has sparked outrage in the region.
