Thiruvananthapuram: Fort police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly assaulting and seriously injuring his wife after she refused to give him money to buy alcohol. The incident occurred at Chirappalam Mini Colony under the jurisdiction of Fort police station around 1 am on Sunday.

Details of the Incident

The accused was identified as Kumardas, a resident of East Fort. According to police, he became enraged after his wife declined to provide him with money for alcohol. The altercation escalated quickly, leading to a brutal attack.

Nature of the Assault

Police said the accused verbally abused the woman, strangled her, burnt her with a cigarette, and brutally assaulted her using a stick. The woman sustained serious injuries and was later admitted to the general hospital for treatment.

Police Action and Background

Following the incident, Fort police launched an investigation and arrested the accused. Police officers revealed that Kumardas has a criminal background and is involved in approximately seven assault cases registered at Fort, Thampanoor, Karamana, and Vanchiyoor police stations.

Legal Proceedings

Kumardas was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. Police stated that further investigation is under way.
