Delhi Police Arrests Man for Double Murder of Partner and Daughter in Uttarakhand
In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police has apprehended a 38-year-old man accused of committing a heinous double murder involving his live-in partner and her nine-year-old daughter. The tragic incident occurred last week in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, and came to light after a local resident reported a foul smell emanating from a rented room in Tilwada village.
Discovery of the Crime Scene
The informant alerted the Jakhole police outpost under Kotwali Rudraprayag on Friday, noting that Deepak Bahadur, a resident from Nepal who lived in the room with his family, had not been seen for several days. Upon arrival, a police team found the room locked and, upon forced entry, discovered the bodies of the woman and her daughter inside. Preliminary investigations suggest the murders had occurred days prior to the discovery.
Investigation and Arrest
A case was promptly registered under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Rudraprayag police station. Bahadur was identified as the prime suspect and was traced near Azadpur Mandi by Uttarakhand Police, who then collaborated with Delhi Police for further action.
DCP (northwest) Akanksha Yadav stated, "The team conducted electronic and technical surveillance to track the accused." This meticulous approach led to Bahadur being spotted near New Delhi Railway Station. Despite initial challenges due to the heavy rush at the station, police managed to apprehend him as he attempted to board a train to Mumbai.
Motive Behind the Murders
During interrogation, Bahadur revealed that he had met the woman through social media and subsequently moved in with her and her daughter. However, tensions arose when he discovered she was reportedly involved with another person, leading to frequent quarrels. In a fit of rage during one such argument, he allegedly murdered both the woman and her daughter before fleeing the scene.
Following his arrest, Bahadur was handed over to Uttarakhand Police for further legal proceedings. This case highlights the critical role of inter-state police cooperation and advanced surveillance techniques in solving serious crimes.
