Man Arrested for Hoax Bomb Threats Targeting Lucknow Railway Station and Airport
A 43-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in Lucknow for allegedly issuing hoax bomb threats targeting Charbagh Railway Station and Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport. The accused, identified as Umesh Kumar, a resident of Bhilawa in the Alambagh area, reportedly made the threats to implicate his wife's lover, according to the Government Railway Police (GRP).
Details of the Hoax Threat Incident
Police stated that Umesh Kumar used a mobile phone registered in the name of his wife's lover to execute the plan. Investigators revealed that Kumar had repeatedly objected to his wife's communication with the man, but the two allegedly continued to remain in contact. Kumar took possession of the mobile phone, which was reportedly given to his wife by the lover, and dialled the women's helpline number 1090. He falsely claimed that Charbagh Railway Station and the airport would be blown up, triggering immediate alarm.
Police Response and Investigation
The threat information was relayed by the control room to local police and GRP Charbagh, prompting security agencies to swiftly initiate checks. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During the probe, the call was traced, leading police to Kartikeya Srivastava, who informed them that he had given the phone and SIM card to his lover six months ago. Police then reached the woman's house, where she disclosed that the phone was in the possession of her husband, Umesh Kumar.
Arrest and Legal Action
During questioning, Umesh Kumar confessed to the crime. He was subsequently booked under Sections 212(A) and 351(3) of the BNS at GRP Charbagh police station and sent to judicial custody. Police also recovered the mobile phone used in making the hoax call from his possession. This incident highlights the serious consequences of false threats, which can disrupt public safety and waste valuable law enforcement resources.
