A 30-year-old man accused of operating a multi-state marriage fraud racket through a network of fake call centres has been arrested from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, police said on Friday.
Details of the Arrest
The accused, Pradeep Singh, ran fraudulent call centres in Gwalior, Guna, Ayodhya and Azamgarh, targeting people seeking matrimonial alliances through advertisements on social media.
DCP (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena said, “The case came to light after a resident of East Azad Nagar approached Cyber Police Station, Shahdara, alleging that he had been cheated on the pretext of matrimonial services. The complainant told police that he came across an online advertisement offering marriage-related assistance and was subsequently contacted by representatives who persuaded him to avail of their services. Trusting their claims, he transferred money through a QR code provided by them, but no services were delivered.”
Investigation and Arrest
The cops traced the money trail to a woman’s bank account and later identified another woman operating a call centre in Gwalior. During questioning, she allegedly disclosed that the operation was being run by him.
A police team conducted technical surveillance and field verification before raiding and arresting Singh in Gwalior.
