Patna: A 31-year-old man, Satyendra Kumar, a resident of Shahpur, was arrested by Rupaspur police for allegedly molesting a polytechnic student at a hotel in the Calicut area of Danapur in Patna district on Saturday night. He was taken into custody after the victim's father lodged a written complaint.
Police Response and Investigation
City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh stated, 'On May 23, a written complaint was received at Rupaspur police station from Santosh Kumar, a resident of Begusarai district. In the complaint, he reported that he had come to Danapur with his daughter for a polytechnic examination. They were staying at a hotel under the Rupaspur police station area. In the middle of the night, a drunk person entered their room and molested his daughter.'
The complainant immediately contacted the police via Dial 112. Officers reached the spot promptly and arrested the accused. An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bihar Excise Act, the POCSO Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Ongoing Investigation and Security Measures
'Satyendra has been arrested, while another co-accused named in the complaint is absconding. A separate team has been formed to nab the remaining accused. The police will also question the hotel owner regarding serious security lapses, particularly why the CCTV cameras were not operational at the time of the incident,' the SP added. He further informed that a comprehensive security audit of all hotels in the area will be conducted to ensure compliance with security guidelines.
The incident has raised concerns about safety in hotels, especially for women and students. Authorities are taking steps to prevent such occurrences in the future.
