Varanasi Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Attack on Mentally Challenged Beggar
In a tragic incident that has shocked the community, police in Varanasi have made a significant arrest in the case of a mentally challenged beggar who was brutally killed in Ramgarh market. The arrest of Vikas Kumar Chero, also known as Vicky, marks a crucial development in the investigation that began after the victim's body was discovered.
Details of the Crime and Investigation
The body of the beggar, identified as Mangaru, aged 35, was found on January 28 in Ramgarh market, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pannuganj police station. Following the discovery, Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police Abhishek Verma mobilized several police teams to investigate the murder. The teams worked diligently, gathering clues and evidence to track down the perpetrator.
During the investigation, police received specific information pointing to the involvement of Vikas Kumar Chero, a resident of Kewal village in the Kone area. Acting on this lead, officers arrested Chero from the Majhgain culvert on the Karwaniya canal on Tuesday night. The arrest was executed swiftly, ensuring the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Evidence Recovered and Confession
Upon arresting Chero, police conducted a search and recovered key pieces of evidence linked to the crime. These items included Mangaru's jacket, trousers, shoes, and a sharp piece of glass that was used as the murder weapon. The glass had been employed to slit Mangaru's throat, leading to his immediate death.
During interrogation, Vikas Kumar Chero confessed to the murder. He admitted that he had targeted Mangaru with the intent to loot the money the beggar had collected from alms. Chero revealed that he had a history of committing thefts but had managed to evade capture until now. He lived with his wife, Lakshmi, at his in-laws' residence in Raiya Gosai, adding a personal dimension to his criminal activities.

The events unfolded on January 27 at Ramgarh market. Chero noticed Mangaru counting the money he had received from charitable donations and placing it in his pocket. Later that night, when Mangaru was asleep near a school building, Chero attempted to steal the money from his pocket. However, Mangaru woke up and caught Chero's hand in the act.
In a violent response, Chero retrieved a sharp-edged piece of glass and struck Mangaru's throat, causing fatal injuries. The attack resulted in Mangaru's death on the spot. Chero then fled the scene with the stolen money, leaving behind a gruesome crime scene that would soon be investigated by authorities.
