Ulhasnagar Man Arrested for Impersonating CBI Officer in Elaborate Job Fraud Scam
In a shocking case of deception, the Vithalwadi police in Ulhasnagar have apprehended a 37-year-old man for allegedly masquerading as a senior officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The accused, identified as Raju Pattekar, is charged with cheating multiple individuals by falsely promising them employment within the prestigious federal agency.
Modus Operandi and Victim Exploitation
Pattekar reportedly impersonated an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, specifically targeting vulnerable individuals, with a significant number of victims being women. He lured them with assurances of securing coveted positions in the CBI, exploiting their aspirations for stable government jobs. Police investigations reveal that he demanded substantial sums ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh from each victim under the guise of processing fees or bribes.
After collecting the money, Pattekar neither provided any jobs nor returned the funds. In a particularly egregious instance, when one victim approached him to recover her money, he allegedly coerced her into performing household chores at his residence. This included cooking meals and taking care of his children, yet he still refused to refund the amount. To intimidate victims, he threatened that if they filed formal complaints, he would withhold their money entirely, further compounding their distress.
Police Intervention and Evidence Recovery
The scam unraveled when senior police inspector Ashok Koli took cognizance of the incident after learning about the fraudulent activities. He promptly registered an offense and led the arrest of Pattekar. During a thorough search, authorities recovered incriminating evidence from the accused's possession, including six walkie-talkies, fake government seals and stamps, and a cache of forged documents bearing the CBI name. These documents comprised bogus appointment letters and other fabricated materials used to legitimize the scam.
Following his arrest, Pattekar was produced before a local court, which remanded him to four days of police custody to facilitate further interrogation. The police are now conducting a detailed probe to ascertain the total number of victims and the full extent of the financial fraud. Preliminary estimates suggest the scam may have affected numerous individuals across the Ulhasnagar area, creating a significant stir in the community.
