Man arrested for raping teen girl on pretext of marriage

Kanpur: Police arrested a 29-year-old man, Gopal Singh, a resident of Devsadh village under Sadh police station in Kanpur Nagar district, for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl from Banda City Kotwali area on the pretext of marriage.

Incident Details

According to police, the girl left home four days ago without informing her family after being upset over a marriage her family had fixed. Upon reaching Chitrakoot, she came into contact with the accused. Police said the youth first expressed sympathy and gained her trust by listening to her problems, later promising to marry her.

After gaining her trust, he took her to a hotel, where he raped her before fleeing the spot. The girl later contacted her family members and narrated her ordeal. The girl’s father then informed police, following which Kotwali Nagar police initiated action.

Arrest and Investigation

A police team reached Chitrakoot and searched for the accused. During investigation, police found that the accused was attempting to flee towards Satna, after which a lookout was launched to nab him. Police later arrested the accused on Saturday from a bus heading to Satna. After the arrest, he was brought to Banda Nagar Kotwali.

SP Palash Bansal said that the accused has been arrested and sent to jail. The entire matter is being investigated.
