Dindigul Police Arrest Man for Stabbing Two DMK Functionaries in Vedasandur
Police in Dindigul have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly stabbing two DMK functionaries in Vedasandur on Saturday. The incident occurred as the victims were preparing to attend a party event in Madurai.
Details of the Attack
According to police reports, S T Saminathan, a DMK union secretary for Vedasandur, along with party member Nachimuthu and other cadres, left Saminathan's farmhouse around 9 am on Saturday. They were en route to a DMK event scheduled to be held in Madurai.
The attacker, identified as Manikandan from Eriyodu, intercepted Saminathan's car. In a deceptive move, Manikandan draped a shawl over Saminathan and took a photo with him. As Saminathan attempted to re-enter his car, Manikandan suddenly produced a gaff and stabbed him on the back of his neck.
When Nachimuthu tried to intervene and stop the assault, Manikandan turned on him as well. Nachimuthu sustained a minor cut injury near his stomach during the altercation.
Immediate Response and Arrest
Bystanders and people nearby quickly responded to the violent scene. They transported both injured DMK functionaries to the Vedasandur government hospital for urgent medical treatment. Their current conditions have not been disclosed, but they received prompt care following the attack.
The Koombur police station registered a formal case regarding the stabbing incident. Authorities swiftly arrested Manikandan in connection with the attack. Police are actively investigating to determine the precise motive behind this violent assault on the political functionaries.
