Man Steals Hair Wig Worth ₹35,000 in Mumbai

Mumbai police have made an unusual arrest involving a 27-year-old man who allegedly stole an expensive hair wig for personal use. The incident occurred at a shop on Mohammed Ali Road, where the accused took advantage of the owner's temporary absence to commit the theft.

The Theft and Investigation

The arrested accused, Nabil Khan, confessed to investigators that he has been experiencing hair loss and regularly uses wigs. According to police sources, Khan explained that his existing wig had become old and torn, prompting his desire to acquire a new one without paying the ₹35,000 price tag.

During his visit to the shop, Khan noticed the owner step away momentarily. Seizing this opportunity, he discreetly pocketed the wig and quickly left the premises. When the shop owner returned, he found both the customer and the valuable wig missing from his establishment.

CCTV Footage Leads to Arrest

The shop owner immediately reviewed the CCTV footage installed in his shop, which clearly captured the theft. He subsequently filed a formal complaint at the Pydhonie police station, initiating an official investigation into the matter.

A police team led by Sub-Inspector Anil Wayal took charge of the case. Using technical intelligence and thorough investigation methods, the team successfully identified the suspect and tracked him down to Shrivardhan in Raigad district, where he was apprehended.

Police sources revealed that Nabil Khan has two previous cases registered against him under the Information Technology Act at Navi Mumbai and Ghatkopar police stations, indicating a history of legal troubles.

Recovery of Stolen Wig

Investigators have successfully recovered the stolen wig from the accused. Khan admitted to police that he realized he had been captured on CCTV and anticipated his eventual arrest. Consequently, he never used the stolen wig and kept it stored at his home.

The case highlights how personal insecurities can sometimes lead individuals to commit desperate acts, even for items as specific as hair replacement solutions. The Mumbai police's efficient use of surveillance technology and investigative techniques ensured a quick resolution to this unusual theft case.
