Young Man Arrested for Temple Donation Box Theft in Mumbai
In a significant breakthrough, the Dahisar police have successfully apprehended a 20-year-old man involved in the theft of donation boxes from a local temple. The accused, identified as Badal Kumar Das, was arrested for breaking two donation boxes and stealing cash from the religious establishment located in Maratha Colony, Dahisar East.
The Temple Incident and Police Investigation
The theft occurred during the intervening night of November 20 and 21, when the accused allegedly targeted the temple premises. The crime came to light the following morning when a temple trustee discovered the damaged donation boxes and immediately filed a formal complaint with the Dahisar police station.
Launching a thorough investigation, police teams meticulously scanned footage from 30 electronic surveillance cameras installed in the area. This extensive CCTV review proved crucial in identifying and tracking down the suspect. The digital evidence collected from multiple camera angles helped investigators piece together the sequence of events and ultimately led them to the accused.
Recovery of Stolen Property and Additional Findings
During the arrest, police recovered Rs 8000 in cash that Das had stolen from the temple donation boxes. In a surprising development, the investigation also led to the recovery of four batteries that had been stolen from trucks and autorickshaws in a separate offense. This recovery suggests the accused might have been involved in other criminal activities in the area.
Police confirmed that Das resides in Dahisar East, making the temple theft a local crime. With this arrest, the Dahisar police have successfully solved another theft case that was registered at their station earlier this year, demonstrating their continued efforts to maintain law and order in the community.
The case highlights the effectiveness of modern surveillance systems in combating urban crime and serves as a warning to potential offenders that such activities will not go unpunished. Local residents have expressed relief at the quick resolution of the case and appreciation for the police department's diligent work.
