Kalyan Man Arrested for Stone-Pelting on Vande Bharat Express After Personal Dispute
In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old man from Kalyan was arrested on Friday for allegedly hurling stones at a passing CSMT-Shirdi Vande Bharat Express train. The attack occurred between Thakurli and Kalyan stations, causing damage to multiple coaches and panic among passengers, although no injuries were reported.
Details of the Incident and Arrest
The suspect, identified as Sunny Kamble, was detained by the Kalyan Railway Protection Force (RPF) after his suspicious movements near the railway tracks raised alarms. During interrogation, Kamble admitted to pelting the train with stones. He cited being upset over his girlfriend refusing to speak to him on the phone as a motive, and also claimed to have consumed drugs earlier in the day, which influenced his decision to loiter near the tracks.
The stone-pelting damaged the windowpanes of four coaches of the Vande Bharat Express, a premium train service. Railway officials confirmed that while the incident caused significant alarm among travelers, all passengers remained unharmed. The quick response by authorities helped prevent further escalation.
Legal Actions and Charges
Following his arrest, Sunny Kamble was remanded in magisterial custody. The Kalyan RPF, in collaboration with the crime intelligence branch, invoked charges under the Railways Act. These include endangering passenger safety and trespassing on railway premises, highlighting the serious nature of the offense.
This case underscores the risks posed by such acts to public transport safety and the importance of vigilance in railway security. Investigations are ongoing to ensure all aspects of the incident are thoroughly examined.
