Man arrested for trying to kidnap 5-year-old in Ludhiana

In a disturbing incident in Ludhiana, a 32-year-old man from Ferozepur was arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to kidnap a five-year-old girl from the Tibba area. The swift action of alert onlookers, who heard the child's cries and nabbed the suspect, prevented a potential tragedy.

How the Kidnapping Bid Unfolded

The incident occurred when the woman's children were playing outside their house on the street. According to the mother's complaint, the accused first held her son and offered him a snack. The boy, however, managed to free himself and ran back home. Undeterred, the man then picked up her five-year-old daughter and tried to take her away.

The little girl immediately started crying, which drew the attention of people nearby. The gathered public quickly intervened, apprehending the man and preventing him from fleeing. They subsequently informed the Tibba police station, who arrived at the scene and took the accused into custody.

Police Investigation and Accused's State

During the investigation led by ASI Kashmir Singh, it was revealed that the arrested accused is a resident of a village in Ferozepur. He had travelled to Fatehgarh Sahib with a group to attend the Shaheedi Mela and was supposed to return to Ferozepur by train. The group had stopped at Ludhiana railway station to catch a connecting train when the man somehow got separated from them.

The police officer stated that the man appeared to be under the influence of some intoxicating substance. This assessment was based on his disoriented behaviour, as he kept insisting even in police custody that he was at the Ferozepur police station. The accused reportedly claimed that he picked up the girl because she resembled his own daughter.

Legal Action and Case Registered

Disregarding his claims, the police have taken strict legal action. A case has been registered under sections 137(2) (kidnapping) read with 62 (attempt to commit an offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint filed by the girl's mother. The accused remains in police custody as the investigation continues.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the Tibba locality, highlighting the importance of community vigilance. The police have commended the role of the alert citizens whose timely action led to the immediate arrest of the suspect and ensured the child's safety.
