A 17-year-old girl was brutally attacked with a machete while waiting for a bus at Montimaru, near Bantwal, on Monday morning. The assailant, identified as 28-year-old Ravi, a local resident, allegedly attacked her without provocation and later surrendered at the Bantwal police station.

The victim, a second-year pre-university student, was rushed to a nearby hospital with severe injuries to her head and shoulder. According to police, she is currently in stable condition.

The attack occurred around 8:30 AM when the girl was waiting to board a bus to her college. Eyewitnesses reported that Ravi approached her from behind and struck her multiple times with a machete. Locals rushed to her aid and chased the attacker, but he managed to flee.

Senior police officials stated that Ravi surrendered at the Bantwal police station within an hour of the attack. He has been taken into custody and is being interrogated to ascertain the motive.

Police Investigation Underway

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Bantwal) said, "We have arrested the accused and are investigating all angles, including any possible personal enmity or mental health issues. The victim’s family has been informed, and we are providing necessary support."

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder and assault on a minor. The machete used in the attack has been recovered.

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who demanded stricter security at bus stops. Parents expressed fear for their children's safety, with many calling for increased police patrolling in the area.

Bantwal MLA said, "This is a heinous crime. We will ensure the strictest punishment for the accused and take measures to improve safety for women and children."

Police have assured that a special investigation team is probing the case and that the accused will be produced before a court shortly.
