Thiruvananthapuram: Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly attempting to murder his wife with a knife following a family dispute at their rented house in Karimatham Colony, Poojappura.
Incident Details
According to Poojappura police, the incident occurred during an argument between the couple. The accused, identified as Sanalkumar, allegedly repeatedly assaulted his wife Remiya by striking her on her head and face. He later attacked her with a knife, causing multiple injuries. The woman was immediately admitted to the general hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.
Police Action and Arrest
Based on the victim’s complaint, Poojappura police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was traced and taken into custody soon after the incident. Following his arrest, he was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police said Sanalkumar is a rowdy history-sheeter with a criminal record. He is involved in seven cases registered at Poojappura, Fort, Karamana, and Malayinkeezhu police stations. The cases include offences related to drug abuse, assault, and other criminal activities.

Police have stated that further investigation is under way. They are examining the circumstances leading to the dispute and verifying if any other individuals were involved. The victim’s statement has been recorded, and evidence from the crime scene is being analyzed.
