A horrific incident of domestic violence has shaken the Nigohan area of Lucknow, where a man allegedly hacked his wife to death with an axe early on Monday. The brutal attack followed a domestic dispute, with the accused fleeing the scene after committing the crime.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Rajesh Rawat, aged 48, who resided at his in-laws' house in Shekhan Kheda, is accused of attacking his wife, Rajeshwari Devi, aged 46, with an axe. The assault occurred after an argument between the couple, escalating into a fatal confrontation.
The victim sustained multiple severe blows to her face and neck, leading to her immediate death at the spot. The weapon used in the attack, an axe, was later found on the cot where the body was discovered.
Discovery by Family Members
The incident took place while the couple's children and other family members were away, attending a neighbour's wedding function. Upon returning home from the ceremony, the eldest son, Gulshan, aged 22, made the gruesome discovery.
Gulshan found his mother lying on a cot, covered with clothes. When he removed the covering, he saw she was lying in a pool of blood, with deep axe wounds visible on her face and neck. The shocking scene prompted him to alert the authorities immediately.
Background of the Couple's Troubles
In his statement to the police, Gulshan revealed that his father, Rajesh Rawat, had a history of alcohol addiction. He frequently quarrelled with his wife, Rajeshwari, especially while intoxicated, leading to constant domestic disputes.
Troubled by these ongoing conflicts, Rajeshwari had taken steps to improve their living situation. About two years ago, she sold ancestral land and used the proceeds to build a separate house, aiming to live apart from relatives and reduce tensions.
Despite these efforts, the disputes persisted, culminating in this tragic and violent outcome. The police are currently investigating the case and searching for the accused, who remains at large after fleeing the crime scene.
This incident highlights the severe consequences of domestic violence and substance abuse, underscoring the need for community awareness and support systems to prevent such tragedies in the future.
