A 50-year-old woman was allegedly axed to death by her husband early Monday at Galtar village in the Bistan police station area of Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Attack
According to Bistan police station in-charge Gulab Singh Rawat, the accused, identified as Vishan, attacked his wife Sayada Bai with an axe, inflicting fatal injuries on her neck and chest. At the time of the assault, the woman was sleeping with her 11-year-old grandson. The boy managed to flee the scene after the attack. The couple's son, Kamal, and his children were asleep in another room and did not witness the incident.
History of Disputes
Rawat stated that Vishan frequently fought with his wife, suspecting her character. These ongoing disputes had led Sayada to leave the village earlier and move in with her daughter, Rehna, in Indore. However, about six months ago, Vishan was injured in an accident, prompting Sayada to return and take care of him. Despite her return, the couple's arguments reportedly continued unabated.
Accused's Temperament
The police officer described Vishan as short-tempered and prone to extreme reactions. In a previous incident, Vishan allegedly cut down a jamun tree planted at his home after some children plucked its fruits. Police noted that he was known to be socially isolated, with few, if any, close friends.
Police Investigation
Following a complaint filed by the couple's son, Kamal, on Monday morning, police registered a murder case and launched a search operation to trace and arrest the accused, who remained absconding. Authorities are conducting raids at possible hideouts and have urged the public to provide any information that could lead to his capture.
