A man in Anekal climbed a high-tension tower on Wednesday after his girlfriend refused his marriage proposal, citing his alcohol addiction as the reason for ending their relationship. The incident occurred in the afternoon, prompting a swift response from fire and emergency services, along with local police.
Incident Details
The man, identified as Ramesh (name changed), had been in a relationship with the woman for several years. However, his growing dependence on alcohol led to frequent conflicts, and the woman decided to break up. When Ramesh proposed marriage, she declined, stating she could not continue the relationship under these circumstances.
Upset by the rejection, Ramesh climbed a high-tension electricity tower near the Anekal industrial area, threatening to jump. Onlookers alerted the authorities, and a rescue operation was launched immediately.
Rescue Operation
Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with the local police, arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. Negotiators spoke with Ramesh for over an hour, persuading him to come down safely. Meanwhile, power supply to the tower was temporarily cut to ensure his safety. Eventually, the man was convinced and brought down without any harm. He was later taken into police custody and provided counseling.
Speaking about the incident, a police officer said, "We urge people to seek help for personal issues rather than resorting to extreme measures. Counseling services are available."
Community Reaction
Local residents expressed concern over the incident, highlighting the need for mental health awareness and addiction support. "Such situations can be avoided if people have access to proper guidance and treatment," said a neighbor.
The woman involved has not commented publicly, but sources indicate she is cooperating with authorities. No charges have been filed against the man as of now, though police are investigating the matter.
