Police in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district have taken swift action, detaining one individual after a disturbing video depicting the brutal assault of a young man went viral on social media. The incident, which has sparked outrage, occurred in Gobarai village and involved the victim being beaten with a belt and slippers and subjected to a deeply degrading act.
Chilling Details of the Assault Emerge
According to the official complaint filed by the victim's mother, the traumatic episode began on 29 November. Her son was on his way to Deoria town for shopping around 3 pm when he was intercepted by four men from the neighbouring Sakra Par and Gobarai villages. The group allegedly launched a vicious attack on him.
The assailants did not stop at physical violence. In a shocking act of humiliation captured on video, they forced the youth to lick spit. This video clip began circulating widely on various social media platforms from Sunday evening, drawing immediate public condemnation and prompting police intervention.
Nighttime Intimidation at Victim's Home
The ordeal for the victim's family did not end with the daytime assault. The complainant further alleged that later on the same night, the same group of accused individuals visited their residence. There, they reportedly tried to break down a door and pelted the house with stones, escalating the intimidation and creating an atmosphere of terror.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Responding to the viral video and the formal complaint, Deoria Police have initiated a probe. Station House Officer (SHO) Vinod Kumar Singh of Deoria Police Station confirmed the developments. "A complaint has been filed by the youth’s mother. A person has been detained, and further action is underway," stated SHO Singh. He assured that efforts are on to apprehend the remaining accused, indicating that more arrests are imminent.
The detention highlights the police's response to the public pressure generated by the graphic video. The case underscores ongoing concerns about law and order in the region and the powerful role social media now plays in bringing such incidents to light and demanding accountability.
