GUWAHATI: Security personnel on Tuesday detained a man at the venue of the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government after he was allegedly found carrying a few rounds of live bullets, police said. The incident took place at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara during security screening at the entrance.

According to an officer, the individual was taken into custody for questioning and is being transported to Basistha police station. However, police clarified that no arms were recovered from the person. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the recovery and whether any security threat was involved.

The development occurred minutes before Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was scheduled to administer the oath of office and secrecy to Himanta Biswa Sarma as chief minister along with the new Council of Ministers. The high-profile event is being attended by top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Over 40 NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers are also present, along with several diplomats and leading industrialists. The ceremony is expected to witness a crowd of nearly one lakh people.
