A tragic road accident near the popular Boat Club selfie point in Bhopal's Shyamla Hills area claimed the life of a young man and left two others injured on Monday afternoon. The fatal head-on collision between a scooter and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) has once again raised concerns about road safety in the city.
The Fatal Collision: What Happened?
The incident occurred around 4 pm on Monday as the victim, identified as Sandeep Majhi, a 25-year-old resident of Shivaji Nagar, Habibganj, was riding his scooter. He was accompanied by his two cousins, Sandeep and Deepu, who were seated as pillion riders. The trio was on their way to visit the Boat Club area.
According to preliminary information from the Shyamla Hills police, the tragedy unfolded as Majhi's scooter was descending a slope. It is alleged that he attempted to overtake another car at high speed. During this manoeuvre, he reportedly lost control of the two-wheeler, causing it to swerve dangerously into the path of an oncoming SUV.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Action
The impact of the head-on crash was severe. Sandeep Majhi died on the spot due to the injuries sustained. His two injured cousins were rushed, along with Majhi's body, to Hamidia Hospital in an auto-rickshaw. Doctors at the hospital declared Majhi brought dead.
The Shyamla Hills police have registered a case in connection with the accident. They have also seized the SUV involved in the collision for further investigation. The body of the deceased was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Statements from Involved Parties
Senior police officials provided details about the occupants of the SUV. SHO Bhupender Kaur Sandhu stated that the SUV belonged to an engineer from Bengaluru who was visiting his parents in Bhopal. The driver of the SUV presented a different account of the sequence of events.
The driver claimed he was returning slowly from the Boat Club with his four-year-old child and parents when the accident occurred. He alleged that the scooter, which was being driven in a rash manner, hit his vehicle head-on. Police are investigating both versions of events to ascertain the complete facts and determine liability.
This unfortunate incident highlights the critical need for caution, especially on slopes and near crowded recreational spots like the Boat Club. Authorities continue to investigate the precise causes behind this fatal loss of a young life.
