Tragic Death at Toll Plaza Highlights FASTag Dangers
A 45-year-old man from Rajasthan met a horrific death at the Kherki Dapla toll plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway in the early hours of Friday, November 22, 2025. The victim, Mubin Khan, was crushed by a gravel-laden truck and dragged for nearly 200 metres in a shocking incident that has raised serious questions about toll plaza safety protocols.
The Fateful Journey to Delhi Airport
Mubin Khan, a real estate dealer from Tijara in Alwar district, was on his way to drop his friend Puneet Kumar at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The friends were traveling in Khan's Hyundai Aura to catch a 9 am flight to Bengaluru when the tragedy struck around 4:30 am.
According to police investigations, the sequence of events began when Khan's vehicle approached the toll plaza. His FASTag had insufficient balance for the automatic deduction of Rs 95. Toll booth staff directed him to pull over and make a manual payment of Rs 118 via UPI.
The Deadly Chain of Events
After completing the UPI payment, Khan parked his car a short distance ahead and stepped out to recharge his FASTag with Rs 100. This routine task turned fatal when he began walking back to his vehicle.
A Rajasthan-registered dumper truck entered the same lane just as Khan was returning to his car. The boom barrier lifted immediately after the toll deduction from the truck's FASTag, and the driver accelerated without noticing Khan in his path.
The truck's rear wheels trapped Khan underneath, crushing him instantly. In a particularly gruesome detail, the truck continued moving, dragging Khan's body for approximately 200 metres before fleeing the scene. Police reported finding a trail of blood and body parts at the location.
Aftermath and Investigation
Khan's friend Puneet Kumar, who had been waiting in the car, grew concerned when Khan didn't return. He repeatedly called Khan's phone without receiving any response. Toll plaza staff later informed him about the accident, and he identified his friend's body at the spot.
CCTV footage from the toll plaza captured the entire sequence of events and has been handed over to the police for investigation. Based on a complaint filed by Khan's brother, Ramzan Khan, an FIR was registered at the Kherki Dapla police station.
The unidentified truck driver has been charged under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A police spokesperson confirmed, "We are scanning the footage and expect to arrest the driver soon."
The tragedy has left Khan's family devastated. He is survived by his wife Sarjeena, daughter Muskaan (20), and two minor sons. The police advised Khan's family against viewing the body after the autopsy due to severe mutilation.
This incident has highlighted the potential dangers at toll plazas, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced and drivers may be less alert. It also raises questions about safety protocols for pedestrians at automated toll collection points.
