Man Gets 10-Year Jail Term for Raping Sister-in-Law

A court in Faridabad has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for raping his sister-in-law. The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Purushottam Kumar on Saturday.

According to Deputy District Attorney Rekha JS Jangra, the victim lodged a complaint at the women's police station in 2022. She resided with her husband in a rented house in Faridabad, while her in-laws lived in Delhi. The accused, who was a regular visitor to their home, devised a plan in January 2021. He lured the victim's husband to Delhi on the pretext of work. Shortly after the husband left, the accused arrived at the woman's home and forcibly raped her.

The victim informed her husband about the incident the same day. Subsequently, other family members arrived and pressured her to remain silent and reach a compromise. Due to this family pressure, the woman did not file a police complaint at that time.

Approximately one and a half years later, the accused threatened to kill the victim's husband and threatened to rape the victim again. The couple then filed a complaint at the women's police station, leading to the registration of an FIR. The police arrested the accused, and the case proceeded to trial.

Legal aid lawyer Ravindra Gupta stated that there were 16 witnesses in the trial. The court found the man guilty and pronounced the sentence on Saturday. The fine of Rs 1 lakh will be paid to the victim as compensation.
