In a decisive ruling, a fast track court in Phulbani has sentenced a 36-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the brutal rape of a 13-year-old girl in Kandhamal district. Instead of heading to the town, the man diverted to a nearby jungle, where he raped her three times at knifepoint, instilling terror and helplessness. After committing the heinous act, he abandoned her in the village. The traumatized girl later confided in her parents and aunt, leading her aunt to lodge a formal complaint against the accused.
