Man Gets Life Imprisonment for Assaulting Minor Relative

A fast track court in Attingal, Kerala, on Friday sentenced a middle-aged man to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his minor relative, a Class X student. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 8 lakh on the convict. In default of payment of the fine, the convict will have to undergo an additional four years of imprisonment.

Details of the Incident

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in 2022. The accused allegedly lured the survivor to his house by making her believe that his wife and children were present there. He later sexually assaulted the girl, following which she became pregnant.

Investigation and Trial

The Kazhakoottam police registered a case and conducted a probe led by inspector J S Praveen, who later filed the chargesheet before the court. Special public prosecutor U Salimsha and advocate Neelima R Krishnan appeared for the prosecution.

The court found the accused guilty under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The sentence was pronounced after considering the gravity of the offense and the impact on the minor victim.
