The special Pocso Act court in Kanpur on Monday convicted a man for raping a seven-year-old girl and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 2 lakh. The incident occurred in 2023.
Details of the incident
According to special prosecutor Chandra Kant Sharma, the girl’s mother filed a complaint stating that on November 2, 2023, her minor daughter had gone to a park to play with other girls. The accused, who was present at the park, sent the other girls away and detained her daughter, subsequently raping her.
The mother further alleged that when the other girls narrated the incident to her, she rushed to the spot, where the accused thrashed her.

The prosecution examined six witnesses in the case. Judge Pawan Kumar Rai, in his order, directed that the fine amount be given to the survivor for her rehabilitation.
