Brutal Attack in Hoshiarpur Village
A 55-year-old man, Gurmel Singh, was brutally murdered while sleeping on the veranda of his house in Khepdan village, Dasuya, Hoshiarpur district, early Monday morning. The attackers used a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting multiple blows to his face, according to police reports.
The body was discovered around 5:30 am by Paramjit Kaur, a family member, who went to wake Gurmel and found him lying in a pool of blood on his cot. She immediately raised an alarm, drawing other family members to the scene, who then informed the village sarpanch and the police.
Police Investigation and Evidence Collection
Station House Officer (SHO) Daljit Singh arrived with a police team around 6 am after receiving the information. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination. Forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene, including the blood-soaked cot and the weapon used.
Gurmel's nephew, Amandeep Singh, told police that after his father's death, Gurmel had been living with their family. On Sunday night, Gurmel slept in the veranda as usual, and the family was unaware of the attack until morning.
Dispute Over Cattle Fodder Suspected
SHO Daljit Singh stated that preliminary investigation revealed Gurmel had reportedly been involved in an argument with neighbors over cattle fodder the previous day. Those individuals are being questioned as part of the investigation. A case will be registered after examining the evidence and statements.
The village has been shaken by the incident, with residents expressing shock over the brutal nature of the crime. Police have assured a thorough investigation and swift action against the perpetrators.
