Odisha Police Arrest 56-Year-Old Man for Alleged Assault on Minor Girl
In a distressing incident from Sundargarh district, Odisha, police have taken into custody a 56-year-old man on charges of sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl. The arrest was made on Thursday night following a swift investigation triggered by a formal complaint lodged by the victim's family.
Details of the Alleged Incident
According to police sources, the traumatic event occurred on Wednesday when the young child was left alone at her home. Her parents had temporarily gone out to collect mahua flowers, a common seasonal activity in the region. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused, who is a resident of the same village, allegedly lured the girl to his residence.
It is reported that the assault took place there, and the perpetrator fled the scene only when the child raised an alarm, drawing attention to the situation.
Family Response and Police Action
Upon returning home, the child narrated the harrowing experience to her mother. The family immediately alerted local ward members and village elders, seeking support and justice. Following this, a formal complaint was filed at the police station, setting the legal process in motion.
Police promptly registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation. The accused was detained on Thursday and subjected to interrogation. Medical examinations were conducted for both the child and the accused as part of the procedural requirements, authorities confirmed.
