Man held for misleading probe in T’puram assault case

Vanchiyoor police arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly misleading investigators in the attempted murder case involving the assault of a father and his teenage son at Sreekanteswaram last week. The accused was identified as Akhil alias Plachi of Marayamuttam.

False claims to divert investigation

Investigators said Akhil falsely claimed to have accompanied the main accused, history-sheeter Shyamkumar alias Thakaraparambu Kuttan, during the incident. This was done to divert the probe and help the real accomplice evade arrest. Police said efforts are under way to trace the actual assailant who allegedly participated in the attack.

Court proceedings

Akhil was produced before a court and remanded. The case relates to an attack on Rajesh Kumar, 53, a BSNL employee, and his teenage son Abhinav on Friday night.
