Vanchiyoor police arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly misleading investigators in the attempted murder case involving the assault of a father and his teenage son at Sreekanteswaram last week. The accused was identified as Akhil alias Plachi of Marayamuttam.
False claims to divert investigation
Investigators said Akhil falsely claimed to have accompanied the main accused, history-sheeter Shyamkumar alias Thakaraparambu Kuttan, during the incident. This was done to divert the probe and help the real accomplice evade arrest. Police said efforts are under way to trace the actual assailant who allegedly participated in the attack.
Court proceedings
Akhil was produced before a court and remanded. The case relates to an attack on Rajesh Kumar, 53, a BSNL employee, and his teenage son Abhinav on Friday night.
Details of the incident
According to police, the duo was returning home on a scooter after the latter’s tuition class when they encountered a car allegedly parked in the middle of the road, causing a traffic bottleneck. When Kumar questioned the obstruction and asked that the vehicle be moved, Shyamkumar allegedly became enraged. He and another man allegedly assaulted them before fleeing the scene.
Injuries sustained
Kumar suffered a fracture in the attack, while Abhinav sustained facial injuries. Shyamkumar, who has several criminal cases registered against him, was arrested earlier and remanded in judicial custody.
