Meerut: A man was caught for allegedly impersonating his cousin and writing the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Examination on his behalf at a centre in Sikandrabad of Bulandshahr district on Wednesday.
Police said an FIR was registered on Thursday against Ajit Singh and his cousin, Anil Singh, under BNS Sections 318, 319(2) (cheating), and 336, 338, and 340 (offences related to forgery of documents or electronic records). Investigators are also probing the possibility of a larger racket behind the incident.
Police said officials at Jain Inter College examination centre in Sikandrabad received information that a candidate was taking the examination using another person's identity. During verification, they grew suspicious and subjected him to biometric and KYC checks, which he allegedly failed.
Circle Officer Bhaskar Mishra said, "The investigation revealed that the examinee was not a genuine applicant. Ajit Singh, son of Roop Kishore and a resident of Jatoli village in Etah district, had allegedly appeared in place of his cousin, Anil Singh, son of Devendra Singh."
Officials seized an admit card, Aadhaar card, an OMR sheet copy, and other documents from his possession. During interrogation, Ajit allegedly admitted that he had appeared in the examination to secure undue advantage for Anil.
Based on a complaint lodged by Inspector DN Shahi, a case was registered.
