The Chandigarh UT Police arrested a man who was found sitting in a private car while wearing an Indian Air Force (IAF) uniform near the main gate of the Air Force station in Sector 31. The accused has been identified as Sumit Kumar, a resident of Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

Incident Details

According to the complaint filed by Flight Lieutenant Manish Deo Singh, the station security officer at Main Gate 3BRD, on May 8, a private taxi with a Punjab registration number was spotted parked approximately 25 to 30 meters outside the main gate of 3 BRD. A man was observed sitting inside the vehicle, dressed in the blue uniform of the Indian Air Force, featuring chevrons denoting the rank of Sergeant.

Initial Inquiry

When questioned, the individual claimed to be a cab driver from Sector 110, Mohali, and stated that he had been hired by an Air Force unit, specifically the Ground Examination Board, to transport VIPs at 3 BRD. However, he could not provide a satisfactory explanation for why he was wearing the Air Force uniform. The complainant promptly informed the Sector 31 police station and handed the suspect over to the authorities.

Police Action

Air Force officials requested the police to conduct a thorough verification of the accused's character and antecedents. They also emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into his intentions behind wearing the Air Force uniform. The police subsequently registered a case against Sumit Kumar and arrested him.

Authorities are now probing whether the accused had any ulterior motives or if this was an isolated incident of impersonation. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the case.
