UK Man Sentenced to 28 Months for Grooming Teen Through Roblox Gaming Platform

A 19-year-old man from Eastleigh in Hampshire has been sentenced to 28 months in prison after being convicted of grooming a 14-year-old girl through the popular children's gaming platform Roblox. Carlo Tritta, who was 18 at the time of initial contact, systematically built trust with the victim until she believed they were in a relationship, according to court proceedings.

Systematic Grooming Across Multiple Platforms

The disturbing case began when Tritta first contacted the girl on Roblox, a platform that allows users as young as five years old and hosts over 40,000 user-created games. The grooming gradually progressed from the gaming platform to other digital communication channels before shifting entirely offline. Tritta began sending the girl gifts and takeaways directly to her family home in Manchester, demonstrating the physical escalation of his predatory behavior.

"It's like a continuing nightmare," the victim's mother told Sky News in an emotional interview. The mother, who reported the matter to police after becoming concerned about her daughter's wellbeing, revealed that her daughter is now in therapy and on medication as a result of the trauma. She placed direct blame on Roblox, stating: "It's a child's game where predators are going on. It's like a nice playing field for them with children."

Multiple Charges and Continued Harassment

Tritta pleaded guilty to multiple serious offenses including three counts of making indecent images of a child, engaging in sexual communications with a child, causing a child to watch a sexual image, and two counts of intimidating a witness. His criminal behavior continued even after his initial arrest, with Tritta violating court orders by sending greeting cards containing new phone numbers to the victim.

In one particularly manipulative card, Tritta warned the girl that if the case proceeded to court, "both our names" would be exposed publicly. He further escalated his harassment by making false reports to social services and police about the victim's mother. During this period, Tritta traveled multiple times from Hampshire to the girl's Manchester home, demonstrating persistent stalking behavior.

Repeated Offenses and Final Sentencing

In December, Tritta was arrested for attempting to pervert the course of justice. Shockingly, just three days after receiving a suspended sentence, he returned to the victim's home, leading to his rearrest and subsequent charging with the full list of offenses that resulted in his 28-month prison sentence.

Platform Response and Safety Measures

Roblox, which has faced increasing scrutiny regarding child safety on its platform, has since implemented additional protective measures. The company now uses facial estimation technology for age verification and limits communication capabilities for users under 13 by default. A Roblox spokesperson expressed that the company was "deeply saddened" by the case and emphasized their commitment to working closely with law enforcement when terms of service violations occur.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges facing digital platforms popular with children and the critical importance of parental vigilance, platform safety features, and law enforcement cooperation in protecting vulnerable young users from online predators.
