Gadag Man Allegedly Murdered by Brothers Over Daughter's Marriage to Non-Govt Employee

In a shocking incident from Gadag, Karnataka, a 47-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his own brothers for arranging his daughter's marriage to a non-government employee. The victim, identified as Girishappa Alur, a resident of Lakkundi in Gadag taluk, succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent assault.

Background of the Family Dispute

According to family sources, Girishappa had arranged his daughter's marriage to a youth who was a relative but not employed in a government job. His brothers, Shivakumar and Iranna, strongly opposed this decision, insisting that they would search for a government employee as a suitable groom instead. Even after the marriage took place, the brothers remained disappointed and maintained a distance from Girishappa's family.

The Fatal Assault and Aftermath

The situation escalated on February 27 when the newly married couple visited the brothers. During this visit, Girishappa and his wife Laxmi were allegedly assaulted with deadly weapons by Shivakumar and Iranna. Girishappa was immediately admitted to GIMS Hospital with severe injuries but tragically passed away on Sunday.

Laxmi, Girishappa's wife, recounted the harrowing events, stating, "His brothers opposed this marriage, saying they would search for a govt employee as a groom. Even after the marriage, they were disappointed and kept their distance from us. When the newly married couple went to them on Feb 27, they assaulted me and my husband with deadly weapons. He was admitted to GIMS Hospital and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday."

Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Gadag Superintendent of Police Rohan Jagadeesha confirmed that a case was registered at the Gadag Rural police station following the incident. Two suspects, identified as Shivakumar and Iranna, were arrested in connection with the murder. However, they were later released after the court granted them bail.

SP Jagadeesha stated, "They were in judicial custody. Now they are out, after the court granted bail." The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to gather further evidence and ensure justice is served in this tragic case of familial conflict turning deadly.
