A 40-year-old man was killed after being struck by an unidentified vehicle in Chatra district on Thursday. The fatal incident occurred in the Sanghri Valley area, as confirmed by local police.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Mahendra Prasad Mahto, a resident of Shivadi village under the Barkagaon block of Hazaribag district. Mahto earned his livelihood by collecting leftover coal discarded by NTPC in Barkagaon and selling it in Chatra.
Details of the Accident
On the day of the incident, Mahto was traveling on his motorcycle toward Chatra, carrying bags of coal, when a heavy vehicle ran over his two-wheeler. The impact killed him instantly, and his body was mutilated. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the accident, leaving Mahto's body on the road.
Police Investigation
Awadhesh Kumar Singh, the officer-in-charge of Chatra Sadar police station, stated that Mahto's body was sent to the sadar hospital for postmortem examination. He added, "Search is on for the driver and the vehicle." Police are currently investigating the case and reviewing possible leads.
