A tragic incident unfolded in Sahiyapur village under the Indragarh police station area of Kannauj district on Monday, where a man killed his brother with an axe and subsequently died by suicide over a long-standing land dispute, police said.
Details of the Incident
The deceased were identified as Ramasare (60) and his brother Ram Bhole (56), residents of Sahiyapur village. According to police, the two brothers had been embroiled in a dispute over land for a considerable period. On Monday, the disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation.
During the altercation, Ram Bhole attacked Ramasare with an axe, inflicting severe injuries. Ramasare was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Following the attack, Ram Bhole returned home and hanged himself, ending his own life.
Police Investigation
Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from Indargarh police station arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough inspection. The police took custody of both bodies and sent them to a mortuary for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Villagers reported that tension had been simmering within the family over the land dispute for many years, often leading to heated arguments. The situation finally took a deadly turn on Monday.
Official Statement
Superintendent of Police Kannauj, Vinod Kumar Singh, stated, “Based on preliminary findings, the incident appears to be a fallout of a property-related dispute. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and investigations are underway to uncover all aspects of the case.”
Police are also recording statements from family members and neighbors to understand the sequence of events that led to the tragedy. Further legal proceedings will follow after the post-mortem reports are received.
