The tragic event unfolded at Jarijor village under the jurisdiction of the Jhajha police station in Jamui district on Wednesday night, sending ripples of distress through the local community.
Dispute Over Liquor Money Escalates to Fatal Violence
According to police reports, the dispute erupted after the accused, identified as Manu Pujhar, demanded money from his wife to purchase liquor. When she refused, tensions quickly escalated. The victim, Waqil Pujhar, resided with his only daughter and her husband, Manu, who is a resident of Bhaldugi village. The situation had been simmering for days, with a recent loan of Rs 50,000 taken by Manu's wife from a private bank for house construction allegedly acting as a trigger for the conflict.
Manu reportedly became enraged when both his wife and father-in-law steadfastly refused to hand over the money. The victim's wife, Mamta Devi, provided a harrowing account to the police, stating that Manu returned home in an intoxicated state on Wednesday night and immediately began pressuring his wife for funds to buy more alcohol.
Wife's Refusal Leads to Deadly Confrontation
"When his wife refused, he assaulted her. When Waqil intervened to protect his daughter, Manu allegedly took out a knife and stabbed him on the head, killing him on the spot. He then fled," Mamta Devi alleged, painting a grim picture of the events that led to the fatality. Her testimony underscores the brutal nature of the attack and the swift, violent turn the argument took.
