Bengaluru Man Murders Wife Over Job Dispute at Massage Parlour
Man kills wife for refusing to quit massage parlour job

A horrific case of domestic violence has shaken Bengaluru, where a man allegedly murdered his own wife because she refused to quit her job at a local massage parlour. The incident, which took place in the couple's home, underscores the deadly consequences of controlling behaviour and disputes over women's employment.

The Fatal Argument Over Employment

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Sahanaz, was employed at a massage centre in the city. Her husband, Mohammed Sohail (32), was persistently opposed to her working there. According to police reports, Sohail had been pressuring Sahanaz to leave her job for some time. The situation reached a boiling point on May 9, 2024, when another heated argument erupted between the couple at their residence in KR Puram.

During this confrontation, Sohail's demands for his wife to resign were met with firm refusal. Enraged by her defiance, the altercation turned physically violent. In a fit of anger, Sohail allegedly used his hands to strangle Sahanaz, leading to her tragic death. The police have confirmed that manual strangulation was the cause of death.

Attempts to Conceal the Crime and Arrest

After committing the act, Sohail did not immediately report the incident. Instead, he attempted to mislead neighbours and family members. He falsely claimed that Sahanaz had left their home following the quarrel and was not answering her phone. This story initially cast her as a missing person.

However, suspicion grew when Sahanaz's mother visited the couple's home. She noticed unusual behaviour and insisted on checking the house thoroughly. It was during this search that the grim truth was uncovered. Sahanaz's body was found concealed inside the house, leading to the immediate involvement of the KR Puram police.

Upon interrogation, Sohail's fabricated story collapsed. He eventually confessed to the murder, detailing the argument and the act of strangulation. The police have since arrested Mohammed Sohail and charged him with murder under the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is ongoing to piece together the complete timeline and any prior history of domestic abuse.

Community Shock and Broader Implications

The murder has sent shockwaves through the local community in KR Puram. Neighbours described the couple as having occasional disputes, but none anticipated such a brutal outcome. The case highlights a disturbing pattern of violence against women, particularly in contexts where their financial independence or career choices are contested by their partners.

This tragedy brings into sharp focus the critical issues of gender-based violence and controlling behaviour in marriages. It raises urgent questions about societal attitudes towards women's work and the extreme lengths to which some individuals will go to assert dominance. Advocates for women's rights point to this case as a stark reminder of the need for stronger support systems and legal protections for women facing domestic coercion and violence.

The police have assured that the legal process will be followed rigorously. As the case proceeds, it serves as a somber warning and a call for greater awareness and intervention to prevent such domestic disputes from turning fatal.
