According to police reports, on January 20, Rajeshwari expressed her desire to visit her mother's house to see her brother. Later that night, while Rajeshwari was asleep, Fakirappa allegedly used a rope to strangle her to death. In a bid to cover up his crime, he informed relatives and others that his wife had suffered a fatal heart attack, promptly calling them for the funeral arrangements.
